Purple gallinule, with a little more color at the base of its bill than a moorhen.

The closest id I could find in my (incomplete) African wildlife guide is white-browed scrub robin, but there are small details of the coloration that don't quite match, especially the large white patch below the eye and extending back, and no white feathers visible on the near wing. Hoping noelcmn can confirm or correct.

Small White

This is part of a 14-image series of butterfly photos taken between 2018-07-06 and 2018-08-02. All were with the K-1 and DA*300; 9 of them were taken within the space of an hour, in an area about 240x80m, and are of 8 different species, with a couple more species being taken in the same area during the next few weeks. The rest were at various times and places in Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Surrey.

Rather than spam a single thread with all 14 images, I thought it would be fun to post them in different threads and provide a link from one to the next. Follow the links to threads you might otherwise never have looked at!

Onwards!

Putting each one in a separate post is just what we want so long as the contest is running.

Garter Snake from our AM walk on Wednesday, I had to shoot very quickly as it was about to go down that gap between boards on this little bridge, which it did almost immediately after I snapped this picture. As garter snakes go, this is a good-sized specimen that looks well-fed.

For some reason, they call this a Blue-billed Duck.
