I used to assume that woodpeckers were exclusively insectivores. Wrong.
The woodpeckers come to out feeders for seeds almost every day. They also go to the suet hangers for some animal fat, but the seeds are good too.

Those are some great turkey shots there, just awesome eight you had and captured. I really brought out the feather detail.

Nice shots on the Turkeys, Ivoire.

Seems to me you didn't lose too much to NR Dave. Really nice shot of bird I'll probably never see in yard.

I got a new zoom lens this week. My Sigma 70-300mm is a bit under the weather so I bought a Quantaray 70-300mm Macro. Took it out to the docks today to test it out. So, here's a couple I got:

So far the Quantaray seem to focus better than the Sigma did.

Kookaburras are large birds of prey they're not timid and are very friendly when there's a free meal to be had.

I thought it was an American Bittern. I looked at the night herons but couldn't find a juvenile of the yellow crowned. There was two of these birds hanging around in the trees. That one and this one was hiding in the Mangroves.

The link below shows the immature yellow-crowned night heron, scroll down the page to see other views of that bird, and the second photo is the immature photo.

Thanks Dave and baro-nite for the compliments!

I keep getting the night herons mixed up -- I meant Black-crowned. (The juvenile Yellow-crowned has a dark bill and more definite stripes or bands on the neck.) That second one is an excellent shot also. I'm just going by Sibley, but the white spots on the wings and the lack of more definite dark and light markings around the malar/throat suggest that this is indeed the BCNH.

After checking Cornell I see that it is indeed, a Juvenile Black-Crowned Night Heron.
I still have not bought that Sibley's guide...I keep forgetting to do that. Thanks for the ID and the reminder about the book.

No idea what these birds are because all I saw was the little birdie telling the big birdie about the CIA Director resigning.....

.....and this guy joins the latest watercooler gossip with details about another general involved in this big mess.....
