I took a long series of this pair having a friendly-looking, half-serious tussle.

I read yesterday, in the Wildcard Magazine, that Valli Moosa, for a long time the dominant Bull in Addo Elephant Park had been killed in a fight with another bull. Privileged to have seen him on a few occasions.

Magnificent animal. Alas when you reach the top, there are always some who want to topple you just because you've reached the top.

Makes me sad. I'm going off to sulk.

It is an interesting article actually, which posits the idea that because Addo has "limited" space for Elephants to roam, and farmlands are a contributor to that, fights are more aggressive in nature, unlike in Kruger, with its vast spaces. Statistically, with over 600 elephants at present, it is set to double by 2030. Here's another view of Valli from 2011, his tusks were still intact them

I have not seen that many wrinkles in skin since my last Weight Watchers Meeting. )

You have been posting some excellent wildlife photos. Have you submitted any to National Geographic?

Friend, you are an awesome photographer.

Tony

Thank you so much, but I would not consider sending something to NGS. I had experience with one of their staff photographers decades back. Would not have anything to do with them.

Several of the other tourists were really spooked. I am not a brave person, and perhaps through not seeing any real danger, my primary reaction was fascination and "cool, an elephant doing something I've not seen before."
Walter, did you get this picture just before you died?

No. I just started yelling : "Oomgahwah! Umgahwah." That solved everything, and led to our first sighting of a chimpanzee, and a LeRolls maiden.

Probably appeared before, but seeing that I'm busy with that file- Captive Lions at Rietvlei Nature Reserve, most of them from circuses or other private collections. Some have been quite abused too!
