The big one is a Great Blue Heron. Can't see the little one well enough to tell what bird that is. Your second one is a Seagull.

Thank you. The Great Blue Heron flew away as I was trying to creep up on it for a closer pic.

This was my best shot....

Never really tried to shoot bird pics before but it was kinda fun.

The seagulls were more cooperative with the picture shoot.

Then this goose (?) came prancing around in front of me ready for her close up.

Yeah, birds is fun, allthough it can be frustrating too
Nice shots, nice light on the goose there.

Gulls are a good way for practice, they are not shy and easily approachable:

Elk, Mule Deer and Whitetails from the Last Couple of Weeks

Hello everyone. Here are a few wildlife shots from the last couple of weeks. Some elk, mulies and whitetails.

I took my time getting close to this Mulie Buck, slowly working my way closer in.

I eventually got to within 25 feet or so of him. He got so used to me that he took a little nap right in front of me.

A juvenile doe in the small herd

These last few were taken out in the plains around some juniper breaks

As I was slowly walking up to these two juvenile mule deer, they kept looking out to the north east. When I got a little closer, I found out what they were looking at. Two large coyotes were hidden in the grass stalking the deer. Looks like I ruined their chance at these two mulies. You can see one of the coyotes running through the grass in the center-right of this shot.

Lastly a couple of whitetail does

That's it for now. I have a lot from the past couple of weeks, but these are some of the better ones.

Ho hum, just another stunning set from Colorado CJ, big game hunter. When you say "I took my time getting close" I imagine you must have crept in very slowly indeed -- you obviously have the knack for getting close to these large animals, as you've shown here and in other sets. Excellent stuff.

Thanks for the compliments I do take my time working in close to wildlife and am always watching their body language. I've been doing it for years, long before I got into photography (only been doing this photography thing for about 4 years now ) wish the photography bug bit sooner.

I like shooting all wildlife, but I think my favorites are the mulies. They are very curious and don't spook near as easily as whitetails or elk. If you spend your time with them, they generally get pretty used to you and let you get very close. I've even petted a few of the curious juveniles when they walk up to me to check me out.

Wow, with the 18-55mm! You must have been right on top of them. I can never get very close to birds, I must smell funny

Not that close, these are cropped so they appear right in front of me. Actually, they were about 5 to 10 feet in front of me.
I had the little blue heron talking to me today. People who fish this area feed these birds so they are not afraid of people as much as they should be. I do not feed them. I don't believe in feeding wildlife.

I agree (but I make an exception for the grand-kids.)
