I've typed in this anecdote before, but once again. At a wildlife park in Canada specializing in native/local animals, I was photographic a fox in an outdoor enclosure when it turned and came right up to the fence in front of me staring at the grassy strip that separated the pavement where I was standing from the chicken wire fencing. I suddenly realized it was staring at the one leg of my tripod that was out in the grass. If I moved it side to side, the fox followed it intently. If I raised that leg off the ground. the fox lifted its head and still followed it right-left-up-down with with great interest. One of official park personnel came over to investigate and when I explained and demonstrated agreed to let me hold the tip of the 'pod close to the fence so the fox could sniff, but it did not lose interest until I left.
