African Crested Porcupine - zoo specimen. The big quills are fascinating, but so are the very long whiskers.

Ok some zoo pics then, from a recent visit to Taronga Zoo (Sydney). On a personal note I'm not a fan of zoos, the older I get it just feels like I am capturing imprisonment, but the camera has no opinion, it just records the images.

Some awesome ones there; perfect giraffe shot

Thank you!

Man I worked hard for the giraffe shot. I was using my K200/4 so obviously manual focusing, and the giraffe was mostly giving me a side portrait whilst it was eating between two baskets. As the giraffe panned from one basket to another is when I caught this face on shot (after multiple failed attempts). I actually cloned a lot of the baskets out of these shots to be left with just the face to focus on (I didn't want any other distractions).
The giraffe is a curious beastie indeed. Those ears, eye lashes, horns... neck... so peculiar when you think about it and I think face on highlights the oddities the most. I'm glad you enjoyed the shot

I haven't see raccoons in the woods out back for a couple of decades (since I evicted a family of them from my attic) but perhaps there'll be more since I caught this couple in flagrante delicto in the beech tree down the hill.

Nice to see Ben again, even posed for a shot or two. Cheers Ben.
