A bull elk touting his male elkhoodness, then trying to soft talk a lady who's only interested in her dinner, so he stalks away disappointed. The elk have been reintroduced to this area of the Great Smokey Mtn. and many if not all have tracking collars.

Thanks Charlie. If you click on it and go to Flickr, it will tell you the EXIF there. But it's the HD 55-300mm WR ED and K-50 White Knight.
My brother has that lens which I have borrowed...very impressive

I think this is a black-headed gull, although there are a couple other black faced gulls in Iceland.

The reddish bill and legs make this a Black-headed Gull. It's also the only gull with a black head likely to been seen in Iceland. Other gull species with black heads are either accidental vagrants from continental Europe (Little and Mediterranean Gulls) or North America (Bonaparte's, Franklin's, Laughing), or are pelagic migrants in passage, i.e., they wouldn't be seen on land (Sabine's, which also has a yellow tip on its bill).

Glad I got the id correct. Thanks for additional information. Bonaparte's & laughing were the only black-headed gulls familiar to me before encountering black-headed gulls on Iceland. M & I are only casual birders. We don't go looking for birds & flowers & insects etc. etc., but we want to know what we see especially when vacationing. Being able to put a name of something makes you feel hat you know it.
