Kea - these New Zealand parrots are very intelligent, playful, and unfortunately destructive. I watched one trying to remove a radio antenna from the roof of a bus. Permanently installed electronic equipment in Kea country has to have cables fitted with stainless steel mesh to protect any cables.

This guy ran over the road in front of us, then scurried up a tree. The claws on him were huge, he was over a metre long easily.

Varanus varius. There's been a number of times where I've been on a bushwalk and hadn't noticed the Goanna, but he spotted me and raced up a tree. Surprised me more than the goanna! Good shot.

Thanks. For all the time I've spent in the bush I've never seen one in the wild until the other day, this was on a side track off the main Alligator Gorge Road near Melrose.

Cool! I don't recall seeing any in South Australia. I saw a large monitor in the vicinity of Goondiwindi in Queensland once, but all the others I've seen have been Lace Monitors on the east coast or the Great Divide.
