Gosh I've never even HEARD of a snake eagle. Are they as small as this photo implies they are?

Well, yes, they are small in relation to some other Eagles, though Wikipedia reckons, medium sized. There are 7 Species of Snake Eagle, almost all of them endemic to Africa, with one doing some migration into Europe. South Africa is blessed with two of those 7, and I have been fortunate enough to see them both from time to time, though not the best opportunities to capture them on camera. The other being the black chested Snake eagle. Wikipedia describes the Brown Snake Eagle "This species is an almost obligate predator of a variety of snakes". i.e. a specialist Snake/reptile hunter, whereas most other eagles hunt snakes, but only as part of a broader diet. Lots of interesting videos of these birds on Youtube if you are interested.

Here's another shot! Here you can see the bare legs-excellent protection against venomous snake bites.

Butcher Bird.

"Dive dive dive!!"

Yep, these things can be savage and absolutely will pick a hole in your forehead.
Had a fun stand off with this one, trying to tread that thin line of capturing an action shot whilst protecting my lenses/head!

Brutal!

there is a small number of black rhinos in the Serengeti

the rangers want their locations hidden

our guide told us that if we were 10 minutes later than when we arrived, it would have been gone out of sight
