In Beatty, Nevada, the burros rule the town, but are wild. They wander about as if they own the place.

Cape Barren Goose, actually not especially close to true geese, just an independently evolved look-alike.

Great-billed heron. A lucky capture. This species is uncommon and noted for being very shy. It will almost allways fly away as soon as a human can be seen, usually a long way off. Photographed from a slow-moving boat, the most common situation for sighting the bird. The background is awful, and this is the only in-focus image the camera captured as the AF preferred that cluttered background.

I believe I saw the same squirrel 3 years ago since it was very close to the same spot. I was happy to see this squirrel since I figured he could be an easy mark for an owl or hawk since he stands out so much. This was the best I go before he scampered away.

Australian darter. As with so many birds I spotted on this boating trip, the lighting was less than ideal.

Less than perfect IQ is certainly permissible on such fine action shots under such conditions.

Black kite - Australia, from a boat hand-held.

Very similar to our Goliath Heron-if not the same thing.
