Some of its color changed dramatically depending on whether it was more in the sun or in the shade of the umbrellas. The first image, in the sun, has colors that match a field guide description. The orange-brown of the back in the second image when the bird is in the shade.is not correct. I suspect some of the back color is generated by diffraction rather than pigment, so it is lost in the shade.

Truly awesome photography sir. I see you use the Panasonic DC-G9 body, which lens was aboard?

I had gone to a eat-outside cafe for a snack planning afterward to stroll on the nearby beach looking for this & that to photograph, so I was only carying a minimal kit, the Pany G9 with an Oly 12~100mm and that's what I used when a few of the birds started scrounging for food amid the outdoor tables where I was sipping a cappuccino. Both images are moderate crops. The 12~100mm is a truly remarkable lens. Center sharpness is essentially unchanged through the entire zoom range, and is about as sharp wide open as stopped down.

Brahminy Kite. It was a long way off, so this is a pretty deep crop.

Water dragon. These fellows could be seen almost anywhere. This one was in a small sculpture garden at an art museum, downtown Brisbane.
