Towhee (male) - they forage only on the ground SFAIK so this one and the female won't even land on the four-foot diameter picnic table where seeds on spread, only where I scatter some on the ground.

Hairy woodpecker, the larger of two almost identically colored and patterned woodpeckers in this area.

Not that long ago they were migratory in Ohio, always returned in March, now they are there all year, at least some of them are.

A pair of Broadhead Skinks, they were basking on log next to each other, but I could not get them in a single frame:

They're migratory here - start arriving in March/April. Ten years ago they had never been seen, and any range map for them doesn't include this area. They're also not the only species I've witnessed push their way North...

It's a revelation how much steadier you can hold a long tele with just one leg for a brace. I've had quite a few monopods and there are at least four still in my collection. My oldest, made by Slik, is still a favorite but has one flaw = only three sections so it is too long when collapsed and therefore awkward to carry especially when traveling. The most disappointing model I owned, and it is now gone, was made by Gitzo. It had many sections so it was short when collapsed, but all those collar locks were a royal pain and not reliable, and it was way too heavy.

Another shot of that Fish Eagle- Pilansberg National Park. The cars in the background were looking at lions.

it worked out rather well....knew it would be sturdier than handheld but wondered it's awkwardness which was not nearly as bad as expected...of the course the mobility is a lot easier than my tripod with gimbal head....will note the right hand did "tired" more so than handheld that I can recall
