Bar headed goose. I think this is a handsome bird
Quite agree.

The specimen at Zoo Lake, where it has been trying to mate with the local geese. Not sure of it had any success.

Anthropomorphizing is supposed to be a serious crime for scientists such as I, but when I look at a bar headed goose I cannot help thinking "that is a gentle creature." The reality may be - and I do not know at all - that it has a real goosey personality, like those that I kept away from at the farm in Maine.

It is a gentle creature. The many times I have encountered it at Zoo Lake, not a stitch of aggression in evidence, and that I experience from the other geese there. But then again I have not seen it with young ones.

The maternal, and sometimes paternal impulse to protect their young is admirable but dangerous. The black bears that inhabit woods where I live are mostly shy. Wearing a "bear bell" and making sure it rings regularly will cause them move away as you approach. But heaven help you if you come unexpectedly upon a sow with one or more cubs.

With or without cubs I want a sturdy barrier or moat separating me from this lady.

Impala on the rocks, exploring that there is to eat not much, but it does afford a view.
