Wish this monitor had better resolution, then I might be able to spot some snails you overlooked

Australian northern water dragon. The stonework and pool at the right are obviously man-made, but the lizard is wild. It was in the sculpture garden of an art museum.
I did overlook the Sandpiper right the bottom of the pic! The snail is there towards the top right hand corner.

A couple of Ibis out in the sculpture garden. These are two different crops from the same image file.

Went to see a Spoonbill nearby yesterday which is a bit lost as we don't normally get them so far inland

Isn't that a blacksmith plover? Maybe my identification book is using different, older common names as it doesn't list any kind of "lapwing."

Here are the flies you were trying to see. Looking at this image makes the skin on my face crawl so much I could almost dunk it in a basin full of DEET.

Yes, name changes to most of the Plovers have been instituted- This is now the Blacksmith Lapwing.

And that fly infested image reminded me of this-an image posted a long time ago.

Flies are not the only freeloaders on large mammals.

Hyenas have many dog-like mannerisms, but woe be to anyone who offers a wild hyena their hand for a sniff. People have raccoons, skunks, ocelot, cheetah even a wolf on a leash, but I've never seen a hyena domesticated and tamed sufficiently to be held on a leash.

I don't think I would get close enough to one to offer my hand for a sniff! Doglike they may be (but they aren't dogs, I know), but not in any people-friendly way.

Admittedly they are muzzled but you have to get close enough to let it put a muzzle on
