Togetherness. FYI: Racers are not poisonous. They are very long, slender snakes with a reputation for moving very fast. Are they in fact capable of higher speeds than other North American snakes? I doubt there are controlled, scientific data to confirm the assertion. Snakes slithering through the grass always appear to be moving faster than they actually are.
They are pretty darn fast. I should have been able to get a better shot than that. Stepped out, blew the focus and they were gone like the wind. I see them around my place all the time, but I have only seen a pile of them that one time. I have about 6 species of nonpoisonous snakes hanging around, but I see these the most.

Here are a couple of others:

Here's a hippo with an ox-pecker, and a crocodile. Crocs are quite skittish on land so I was surprised it would let me get this close on foot ("close" being a relative term...). Most of the time they just glide out into the river before I can get within distance for a 300mm. Which may say more about my stealthiness than anything else

I remember sneaking up an opossum once, but it was a road kill.

Back to aqautics

Went out for some fogs capes yesterday, but ended up with a few nice shots of a Harbor Seal mama and pup feeding on a salmon. Made me wish for a good 400mm lens as my Promaster 70-300 gets pretty soft at the max end. The second shot, though, was the pup coming in nice and close.
