Are they in fact capable of higher speeds than other North American snakes? I doubt there are controlled, scientific data to confirm the assertion. Snakes slithering through the grass always appear to be moving faster than they actually are.
They are pretty darn fast. I should have been able to get a better shot than that. Stepped out, blew the focus and they were gone like the wind. I see them around my place all the time, but I have only seen a pile of them that one time. I have about 6 species of nonpoisonous snakes hanging around, but I see these the most.
