Woodpecker & Cherry

This may be the same juvenile as above but now s/he's showing some red. It's been interesting watching these birds with cherries--they'll park them in a crevice in the tree and peck & move them from one crevice to another. I guess this is their technique for separating the fruit from the stone.

Interesting Dave. We don't have any cherry trees here, unfortunately because I love cherries.

I took a shot of one of mine today and I can see a bit of red tinge on top his/her head. It's very light and I had to look hard to see it, but it's there. Not as sharp as I would like it to be either.

Here's some wildlife (one of two) relaxing under one of my Tomato plants. Now I know where the beans went.

That's a bad bad bird!
I'm hoping to get enough to give some away this year, the last two years were pretty bad for me Tomato wise.

Thanks Dave.

Tom, this was our first year of trying to grow tomatoes here. I've gardened in Arkansas for almost 20 years but never down here in Florida. I've learned a few things this year about conditions and how they're not like those in Arkansas. Bad year for tomatoes, too hot and not enough rain. We're thinking maybe a fall crop will be better.

Since we're onto young birds...

Immature Robin. I just finished a job building a fence, this young one and another were there every day with the parents teaching them to hunt.

Baby Barn Swallows

Full grown but I thought it was a decent shot of a hummer

Raccoon. Not a great shot, low light, had to clean it up a bit.

Here's one from back in December that I just rediscovered. I usually see Broad-winged hawks, but this looks like it might be some other type. (I have a hard time distinguishing among several of the hawk species!)

Excellent shot. I too have trouble with hawk ID. Here's one who patiently posed for me recently -- this is only moderately cropped. I think it's a juvenile Red-tailed; it was quite large.

Morning Surprise

I had forgotten about this until this evening. It was from the begining of May on a foggy early morning. I managed to get in a few shots before it lumbered off to next door.
