A different species gathering. Seeing them like this I always wonder how their bulky bodies are packed together under water. BTW: Snowing here this morning, about 4 inches (10cm) so far and still falling lightly.

Think that's the same bird we call a "cattle egret," an interesting case of self-immigration. In the USA it should probably be called a "tractor egret" as the birds habitually follow tractors that are mowing tall grass to grab insects that are stirred up.

Its also called Cattle egret around here, but its proper name is Yellow Billed Egret.

Here's another, slightly different image of that troop of baboons on the road marker in Kruger Park.

Several hippos in various degrees of submergence - bet you did not spot the fourth one (totally below). I can never look at at or think about hippos without remembering a song on a child's story record that was supposed to teach children to be tolerant. It was about a strange creature called a "churkengoose" that was born or hatched looking totally different from all other animals and was ridiculed and rejected for that reason. The creature eventually performs a heroic act and is accepted (why should that be necessary), but during its time as an outcast it sings a sad song with the memorable line: "Are the hippopotami any prettier than I? It depends on how you look at things." Better than the line that the Cowardly Lion sings about hippos.
