An eider duck on its nest. At some point they apparently get broody like a hen and are very reluctant to get off their eggs even when approach quite closely. We did not test for the critical distance.

Another canine, a very quick grab-shot of a young coyote or perhaps a coy-dog (the color, similar to a darkish golden retriever, is a bit unusual for a coyote). This individual has wandered through our back yard four times that I've seen. It seems to be injured, favoring the left hind leg.

Heron is correct, but I think the last one may be a frankolin.My Bird books does not extend that far north ").
Here's a Spotted Eagle Owl I spotted yesterday.

thanks for the help in iding the birds.

re: francolin, the guide book I am using: Birds of East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi by Stevenson and Fanshawe shows the only Francolin with that coloring around the eye is generally located well north and west of where we were. It locates that bird in Uganda.

However I am torn between the yellow-necked and red-neck spurfowl.
