re: francolin, the guide book I am using: Birds of East Africa: Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi by Stevenson and Fanshawe shows the only Francolin with that coloring around the eye is generally located well north and west of where we were. It locates that bird in Uganda.
However I am torn between the yellow-necked and red-neck spurfowl.
I seem to think the Spurfowl are a bit larger. Perhaps WPRESTO can help (nothing quite like asking an American, especially from Messychewbits
) as I recall he posted one from his visit to Tanzania. Have just went back several pages, and if you make you way to pg 264 of this thread, you'll see his image of it. I'll try and copy it here, but if he sues me, you are gonna pay
