time for some bonding and grooming after the feast - 2 adolescent cheetahs (at least one is male) after they had fed on a gazelle and gone to rest in the shade

in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania

" As per a study published on Monday, just around 7,100 cheetahs remain in the wild across Africa and in a small area of Iran as human encroachment has pushed the predator out of 91 per cent of its natural habitats.

Lead study author Dr. Sarah Durant, a cheetah expert at the Zoological Society of London, suggested that the predator should be defined as “endangered” on the official watch list of threatened species worldwide. Currently, the predator considered as a “vulnerable” species on the list.

Sounding the alarm, Dr. Durant said, “Our findings show that the large space requirements for the cheetah, coupled with the complex range of threats faced by the species in the wild, mean that it is likely to be much more vulnerable to extinction than was previously thought.” "

noticed a pair of Mallards swimming in a pond at the Topeka Zoological Park yesterday,

the drake circling the hen, bobbing his head under the water while doing so, and I started taking these sequential photos with the K 3 + (the new to me) HD PENTAX-D FA 150-450mm F4.5-5.6 ED DC AW mounted on a monopod.

looking but not seeing is dangerous to your health.

after about 15 - 20 minutes of watching, the lioness took one of the herd of Thompson's Gazelles as they crossed the small stream just off to the right of this photo.

"Now for something completely different" - cats instead of birds

Although these two leopards look like they are interested in the antelope down below, the one that is hard to see never left the tree and the other just disappeared into the grass.

We think they had a kill from earlier stashed in the tree and weren't interested in any more hunting at the time.

The antelope never scattered at all.

truth be told, I was too busy concentrating on the leopards that I didn't pick up on the antelopes until after I started looking at the photos on my computer when we got home.

These cats weren't exactly close to us like the cheetahs or the lions and were extremely hard to spot in the trees.

This was in the Serengeti National Park Tanzania near a small stream if i recall correctly.
