all are great, but in light of our planned trip to Baja California for whale watching in late February, I am especially impressed by the humpbacks

Terrific collection, The Rainbow Lorikeet I can get images of at Birdkingdom. They are in a cage with a pretty fine mesh. The let people in the cage to help with feeding but I've never done that.

Thanks very much. With the humpback we happened to be on the once-a-season cruise when the whale came up to check out the boat and swam around us for 15 minutes. I've been lucky because it was the second time I've seen this out of about 6 whale cruises. People take long lenses, but you need to be covered with a wide to moderate-tele zoom (preferably WR) in case they come close. The DA 18-135 was ideal. Take two bodies if possible because you won't want to have to change lenses when it's all happening. Oh and C-PL filters are good so you can see below the water - and they protect the front element too.

Thanks a lot Norm. When I was a kid one of the highlights of a trip to Queensland was hand-feeding the rainbow lorikeets at a "sanctuary" on the Gold Coast. But they have spread to Victoria and are now a fairly common sight. People here tend to take the common wild parrots (e.g. galahs, sulphur-crested cockatoos, corellas, lorikeets, rosellas) for granted but most visitors are fascinated by them.

Ten is s nice round number, but I had to throw in a snake to make it to ten. Then I realized I had picture of a mink, but he was to soft to be more than an identifier. My actual rule s was , one photo of each animal. I did a separate thread for birds.

we are told to expect sighting of blue whales, fin whales, hump backs and others types in the Sea of Cortez ( Gulf of California ) and the grey whales and calves in the San Ignacio Lagoon on the Pacific side of the peninsular

The posted image is about the most you see of them. They lift their tails out of the water when sounding, but impressive as their flukes are, they aren't as big as the back of the whale seen in the posted image (blowhole still visible at far left if you didn't notice). These fellows did sound several times while we were watching. The words that come to mind are majestic and impressive.
