as I understand it, the lack of hair on the giraffe's ossicones does not indicate " male pattern baldness " nor the need for Rogaine

it ids the giraffe as a male who most likely lost the hair by banging the head against the necks of other males in competition for mating privileges

That sounds about correct, though it would have been nice to have a sympathetic connection from the animal world .

I'm glad there was a waterhole and mud between us and this elephant although all it was interested in was a dust bath ( I think )

No need for high ISO to get a short exposure to stop the action, but the image should have been crisper/sharper. Not sure if it was the lens, AF point incorrect, or stabilization problem.

Another of that young Eagle from my last trip to Kruger in 2015. I think its a Wahlberg Eagle, but more likely a Tawny Eagle.

Given that both of these species' plumages vary due to plumage polymorphism and age, you might have to consult James Ferguson-Lees' and David A. Christie's book: Raptors of the World, first published in 2001. Published in North America by Princeton University Press, and in the UK, by Christopher Helm.

Look what went through the back this morning. Taken through a double-glass thermopane window with a 25mm Pany lens on an Oly OMD 10, moderately cropped. Naturally I did not have a zoom mounted. PHOOEY!

Thank you for that direction, though I am fairly confident that my ID is correct, having consulted all the bird books I have, including Roberts Birds of SA, the standard reference work around here. Several other raptors have been excluded such as Booted Eagle, Lesser Spotted Eagle and the Steppe Eagle. Here is a Wahlberg Eagle, some differences noticeable
