The newest animals to join the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center, not yet ready to show to the public

Sun Bears Ursus malayanus aka Honey Bear

Ho Ho the male

and Cup Cake the female

due to the loose skin around its neck and shoulders, I think they should be called Shar-Pei Bears [ The Shar-Pei, is a breed of dog known for its features of deep wrinkles ]

" If a predator were to latch on during a struggle, the sun bear can turn in its loose skin and bite its attacker. " - http://animals.sandiegozoo.org/animals/sun-bear

note the positioning of the front paws, as the bear walks,

" They have a distinctive pigeon-toed walk, an adaptation to their arboreal lifestyle. " - http://animals.sandiegozoo.org/animals/sun-bear

The same strategy as the honey badger, then.

"The skin appears remarkably loose; and many field observers have maintained that it almost seems as though it were independent of the body and that the latter could turn and twist freely inside it." The carnivores of West Africa, Rosevear 1974, page 113.

I have only seen the honey badger briefly at great distance and didn't manage to get a picture

Spectacled bear with relatively tight skin. Maybe it had a body lift.

Mule deer in Zion NP. I don't think they allow hunting (or "harvesting" as sportsmen put it) of deer within the park, and there are many humans, so the deer are accustomed and relatively indifferent to people.

Posted this over in the K-1 images thread as well.

A bit far off, but she was the only leopard we saw this time (actually not true since we also saw her cub, but I didn't manage to get an image...).

Not easy to spot in the undergrowth.

Out in the open lying down.

Sitting up after the cub had jumped onto her back and disappeared again. My wife managed to capture that brief moment with her super zoom thingie while I have to settle with the before and after shots
