Field sparrow, I believe. The pinkish beak is supposed to be distinctive, and it was out in a field.

Gnu - or blue wildebeest. Looks rather brown to me, though...

How about some fish for a change. Sunfish or bluegills or several other names, but there are quite a few very similar species in NA ponds and lakes.

Orang looking thoughtful, or maybe just bored.
BTW Noel, there have been reports here about water shortages in Cape Town specifically and SA generally. How are things for your flock?

Giraffe (zoo).
Cape Town has a lot of people to be on the brink have running out of water. You cannot just make more, it has to be found and brought, sanitized and distributed. Could be a major disaster in the making.

there has been a reduction over time of rain fall here in Kansas in recent years compared to earlier recorded data

this site has the info from 1981 to 2010

Climate Kansas - temperature, rainfall and average

the question that is unanswered is whether this is a return to normal after a " wet " period or a change due to climate change or other factors

the underground aquifer is being depleted rapidly

Indeed. They really need the rain that never comes. I have heard some people ask "can't they just desalinate sea water?" Right. And how do you quickly build the capacity to make fresh water for 4 million (or more?) people? Besides, desalination plants cost quite a bit to build and to operate.

Back on topic...

Here's a square-lipped rhino that we managed to get fairly close to on one of our walks.
