Ok, none of these are really good photos but I
think perhaps they chronicle the fledging of a red-tail hawk.
I spotted these two hawks flying over the valley a week ago and noticed that one had it's 'landing gear' down: it occurred to me that maybe it was a beginner.
The next day I saw a hawk sort of splayed out in the trees across the valley. I've seen big birds do that to dry out after a significant rain but we hadn't had a down-pour so I couldn't help but think, "crash-landing?"
Then, yesterday, on a dog-walk, I noticed what seemd to me to be a young hawk sitting on a snag in the rain being harrassed by a smaller bird (Blue-gray Gnatcatcher?)
Maybe these are encounters are unrelated but...
