Snowy egrets.

Notice the ripples around the legs. Snowy egrets have these bright yellow feet.

They shake their feet around the rocks and it frightens the crawdads and small fish out into the open. Diner is served!

We also have Great egrets here. The great egret is 94-104 cm tall while the snowy egret is only 56-66cm tall. Even without the size comparison, it's easy to tell them apart. The great egret has a yellow bill and black feet. The snowy egret has a black bill and yellow feet.

Ok, none of these are really good photos but I think perhaps they chronicle the fledging of a red-tail hawk.

I spotted these two hawks flying over the valley a week ago and noticed that one had it's 'landing gear' down: it occurred to me that maybe it was a beginner.

The next day I saw a hawk sort of splayed out in the trees across the valley. I've seen big birds do that to dry out after a significant rain but we hadn't had a down-pour so I couldn't help but think, "crash-landing?"

Then, yesterday, on a dog-walk, I noticed what seemd to me to be a young hawk sitting on a snag in the rain being harrassed by a smaller bird (Blue-gray Gnatcatcher?)

Maybe these are encounters are unrelated but...

Quick, quick! Open any random thread and post a comment - several comments - many comments on any random image. Post something irrelevant on any thread.. We've posted only a bit over 73% of the number of posts needed for someone to get a free K1, but almost 77% of the month is gone (23/30) and at my location, 1/4 of today is gone. We need to post vigorously, excessively for just one week. Do it! I don't need the camera, but I'd sure like to see someone get it.
