Are the foxes spreading mange in Tasmania where I photographed this one as well as on the mainland?

Tasmania is (for now) fox free. So no mange spread by foxes there. The mange is bad among wombats around Canberra where the foxes are in almost plague numbers. A wombat with mange is a very sad sight indeed.

...but there's wildlife there, and hardly any people. The stretches of dry and badly elephant eaten mopani forest are not the most exciting, but apart from that I like the north.

Cape Barren Geese, in a posture commonly associated with geese although other long-necked birds will use it. These birds are not "true" geese.

This, I believe, is a young cape cobra. Sure, it looks cuddly but it's probably not wise to pick it up.
