As a docent at the Topeka Zoo and Conservation Center I explain that of all of the birds found at the ponds at the Zoo only the trumpeter swans are " residents " and cannot fly away

[ they are a breeding pair and their cygnets are collected and released into the wild ]

all others are free to come and go

usually you will see Canada Geese, Mallards and Wood Ducks

today I found a stranger

any help with the id would be appreciated

perhaps a Green-winged Teal Anas crecca?

From a little research, I am thinking you are correct.

That's a fun picture. Something faintly comical about the duck coming straight at the camera.

Despite the attempt to hide its most distinctive feature, this is a rosy-bill pochard (thank you zoo label maker).

thank you

it kinda remind me of the old WWII submarine films with the attacking destroyer heading directly towards the sub

I also like how it is " framed " by the branches
