Crocodile feeding on the hide of a Hippo, the rest having been consumed already the last couple of days (or so I was told). Too big to consume at once, the biggest croc held onto the bulk of it, while the others took turns at gripping and then spinning to tear of bits and pieces. About 6 Crocs present. Fascinating to watch as every so often the big one lifted its head and tried to gulp it all down- yesterday's visit to Pilansberg .

PIlansberg Lions. I well remember when Lions were introduced to the Park, way back in the 80's, 8 in total, 7 females and one male, taken from wild stock in Namibia. They have thrived in Pilansberg, with a few prides there now..
Saw them in the morning

Yawn

And saw them again in the afternoon on my way out.

This one quite agitated at the presence of a large Elephant bull, meters away.

I woke up one morning at Mirabib in the Namib to see my coffee pot has sprouted ears. A Cape hare that inspected my camp minutely

When you started with those first five words I was expecting the Groucho Marx line about shooting an elephant in your pajamas.

This an old one that I just reprocessed for Ohio Magazine, in their current issue. I did not take the pic of Kenn Kaufman. To show how small of an Owl the Northern Saw Whet is, this one is holding a mouse in its talons.

Aptly named superb starling. They are common, but always eye-catching.

I have trouble being sure of the id for this wading bird. One species with the markings has a turned up bill, another has the straight bill of this individual but black legs, another has the bill and yellowish-green legs but slightly different breast markings. So this is an enigmatic all-season call-it-what-you-like wading bird in Kenya.
