OK, I see how it works. It helps if you notice that there's actually codes beneath the picture in the PF albums! I'm just used to clicking on the Insert Album Photos link that I never really noticed the codes or thought that it was just internal info for the PF code.

This is the way I do the linked photos.

Hit the Insert Album Photos under the smiley faces.

Select From Pictures and Albums As Thumbnail linked to gallery and then select your photo.

The hot linked thumnail HTML will be placed into your submission box.

Remove the part that says &thumb=1

and you are done.

So, several ways to skin the proverbial cat. When it was just the albums ala Single in September, there was no need to do any linking. Those in the challenge would just go to the individual albums, click on the photo, and would be able to comment in the spaces provided. The linking need only arose when it was decided to have a thread for posting the pics.

This works fine for me as long as the common thread (april 1, April 2...) is only used for posting the pictures. Each day's thread will get unmanageable IMO, if there's comments on the pics allowed in the thread, since even with just photos posted, each day will likely be 3 pages long. With the linking to an album for comments wherever the photo may be hosted (PF, flickr, photobucket...), those who want to comment can and the thread will become sort of a gallery. Click the pic to comment, then back to the thread to view more.

Once we have all figured out how and where to hyperlink, it is really nice to open the thread for the day and see a parade of photos. It is easy to click, comment and see what others have said. This thread in the games section can still be a place for general related conversation to gather and discuss the process, frustrations and joys of the experience of shooting each day with a lens we learn to love or loathe.

That is my 2 cents and for what it's worth you will see when I choose a photo for the day, that April is rolling in to my part of the world with a blizzard!

I hate you guys, I hate you.
Haha, no I don't, but I still can't seem to get it linked.
I'll try later, with Jeff's example but first I have to make dinner. And boy, this is one messy thread

This was a test post from flickr. If you click it it will take you to the flickr page.

Karen and others uploading to flickr, after many attempts I got the linking to work.

1. Open two browser tabs, one in the Groups section for the day's thread you'll be posting to (either in the quick reply section or post message), the other to your flicker page with the pic you want to upload called up.

2. As you normally post a pic from flicker you'll click on the share box

3. Highlight the http address and size you want to share (seems like you can't limit the text right now in flickr now, you have to delete some of it once pasted) and control -c to copy it.

4 Switch tabs back to the group thread, type any text you want associated with the pic, and then hit enter to give a space, click the Insert Image icon (mountain with sun), Paste the flickr info into the popup box and limit the text to what's needed

original flickr text for sample photo in above post

<a href="IMGP5935_e | Flickr - Photo Sharing!" title="IMGP5935_e by jsheubel, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5167/5270286248_aa58d1b618_b.jpg" width="502" height="800" alt="IMGP5935_e"></a>

limited flickr text in the popup box

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5167/5270286248_aa58d1b618_b.jpg" width="502" height="800" alt="IMGP5935_e

When you click OK, the image should appear in the thread with the little squares at the corners and middle.

5. Without doing anything else to the thread, switch browser tabs to the flickr page and copy the url from the top browser window

6. Switch tabs again back to your post. The little squares should still be present around your photo. Click on the little planet/chain link icon, and paste the url that you copied in step 5 into the popup box (it should already be a highlighted http://).

7. Click OK and then submit your thread.

Hopefully I explained it well enough.

Thanks John, the Flickr thing works fine by me, so much easier than the thing here on the PF. I'm going to try it one more time, in FireFox. If it doesn't work than, I give up, I'll post the picture from Flickr with only the link (which does work for some strange reason) to the album.

+1 I think we may have a winner format-wise with the newly dicovered linking to the albums. I agree that it's nice to open the group thread and see all the photos, and then the click to make a comment.

The PF albums is just as easy to link from:

Again, two browser windows makes it easy.

1. Upload photo to your Single in April album on PF.

2. Click on the pic just uploaded to bring up the full-size photo and all the details. Under the photo, before the Exif data, you'll see two boxes labelled URL and BBCODE.

3. Click on the BBCODE box to highlight the text and then Control-C to copy it.

4. Open the other browser tab in the thread you want to post to (Apr 3, Apr 4...) and click on Post Reply or just go to the Quick Reply Box and type any text you want in your post.

5. Paste (Ctrl-V) the BBCODE you just copied in step 3. No pic will show up, just the text.

6. Switch tabs again, back to your album, go to the top browser line and copy the URL (Control-C)

7. Switch back again to your post. Highlight the BBCODE you pasted in step 5 and click on the little planet/chain icon. A box will pop up with "http://" highlighted. Paste (Ctrl-V) the url that you just copied into that box and click ok. There still won't be a picture showing.

8. If you opened your thread with "Post Reply" you should be able to Preview Post and see the pic. If just using the Quick Reply Box, just click the Post Quick Reply button and the pic will appear in your post.

I agree on that, I'm still not getting the picture linked there in the proper way, but the pictures shows AND a link to the album, so for now it's fine by me. Don't want to get any nuttier than I already am.

And I think it looks good if there are only shots in the group thread, no comments/questions what so ever.

Pffff, the things we have to do for a challenge, like shooting a whole month with one lens isn't enough!

Karen, I just edited my last post to include the steps for linking from the PF Albums. Maybe that will help.

Thanks John, I'll try it tomorrow. For now, I'm just happy I got them visible anyway. I feel so stupid, like I use a computer and a forum for the first time in my life.
