Victoria Draves won 5 US diving championships and gold medals in both platform and springboard diving in the 1948 Olympics.


Jane Wyman was a singer, dancer, and character actress, and was nominated for the Best Actress oscar for Johnny Belinda (1948). She later had a leading role in the TV series Falcon Crest. She was the first wife of Ronald Reagan.


Actor Guy Madison worked briefly as a telephone lineman before joining the Coast Guard in 1942. In the mid-late 40's he began appearing in romantic comedies and dramas, and in 1951 he was cast in The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok, which ran for seven years.

Busby Berkeley directed and choreographed the big musicals of the 30's that featured kaleidoscopic feather dancers.


Cameron Mitchell acted in over 300 film including They Were Expendable, Flight to Mars and My Favorite Year, and TV roles mostly in Western series.


Sonny Bono was one half of the singing pair Sonny and Cher, mayor of Palm Springs, member of the House of Representatives, and he proposed measures to restore the Salton Sea.

Gregory Peck was an actor in Roman Holiday, Spellbound, and most famously as Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird for which he won the best actor oscar.


June Marlowe is known as the beloved schoolteacher Miss Crabtree in the Our Gang comedies of the early 1930s, and she wrote 2 children's books later in life.




St Vibiana was a Christian martyr from the 3rd century. Her remains were brought to Los Angeles in 1876 and the old cathedral was renamed St. Vibiana's. She was moved to a cemetery after an earthquake ruined the church in 1996, and was finally relocated here when this cathedral was completed in 2002.

John Phillips was a singer, guitarist, songwriter and promoter. Known as Papa John, Phillips was a member and leader of The Mamas & The Papas. Father of Mackenzie, Chynna, and Bijou.

Irv Robbins was one-half of Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavors ice cream.

Richard Benedict was an Italian-born TV and film actor and director, from the 1940s to the 1960s, most notably Ace in the Hole, directed by Billy Wilder, and with Frank Sinatra in 1960's Ocean's Eleven.


William Baldwin acted in a long list of TV shows and movies, usually playing the announcer or newsman.


Michelle Marvin is most famous for her palimony lawsuit against actor Lee Marvin, which she ultimately lost.

Haing Ngor was a physician, and non-professional actor who won a Best Supporting Oscar in his debut role in The Killing Fields. He was killed in a robbery or political hit by gang members.


Boyd Coddington is famous for his hot rod designs, and had a local shop.


Donald Feld, later just Donfeld, was a 4-time oscar-nominated costume designer.

Donald LaFontaine was a voiceover artist famous for over 5,000 film trailers and hundreds of thousands of TV ads, network promos, and video game trailers. His nicknames included Thunder Throat and The Voice of God.


Elmer Dyer was a film cameraman who specialized in aerial photography including that on Howard Hughes' Hell's Angels. He shared an oscar nomination for 1943's Air Force.

Kam Tong was a Chinese American actor best known for his role as Hey Boy on TVs Have Gun – Will Travel. Most of his roles were uncredited.


James Roosevelt was the oldest son of U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a Congressman, officer in the Marines, official Secretary to the President, a Democratic Party activist, and a businessman.


June Storey appeared in small supporting roles, including 3 Tyrone Power films, then gained her greatest recognition as a leading lady in Westerns, including 10 co-starring roles opposite Gene Autry.

George Allen coached football in colleges and the NFL, and led the Redskins to Superbowl VII. He lived locally, and last coached down the road at Cal St Long Beach. He never had a losing season.

Singer/actor Bobby Troup popularized Get Your Kicks on Route 66, was in the movie MASH, and TV's Emergency. His wife, Julie London, was originally a singer (Cry Me A River), then actress, also appearing on Emergency.


Warren Christopher was Secretary of State for President Clinton, and previously during President Carter's term helped secure the release of American hostages in Iran.


Joe Brooks was an actor, probably best-known as Corporal Vanderbilt on TV's F-Troop.

Franklyn Marks composed music for many Disney movies and TV's Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color.


Richard Farnsworth was a stuntman for over 30 years before moving to acting. He got an Oscar nomination in 1979 for Comes a Horseman.

Frederick Loewe was a composer, who, with writing partner Jay Lerner, wrote Paint Your Wagon, My Fair Lady, and Camelot.


Eugene Harmon was a golfer and qualified for the US Amateur at age 15 in 1931. He won the 1948 Masters Tournament by five shots. In 1959, Harmon placed third in the US Open.


Bill Miller was a talent agent, who began his career as a dancer. He virtually invented the lounge show, and brought in everyone from Mae West to Elvis for Las Vegas performances.

Iris Adrian was in over 100 films including A Message to Garcia, Road to Zanzibar, Flamingo Road, Blue Hawaii, and The Odd Couple. Her last film was Herbie Goes Bananas.


Australian-born Orry Kelly was an Oscar-winning costume designer for An American in Paris, Les Girls, and Some Like it Hot.


Michael Wayne was the son of John Wayne. He was an actor, and produced some of JW's movies.

Charlton Heston played Moses in the Ten Commandments, had the title role in Ben-Hur, was Taylor in Planet of the Apes, and starred in Soylent Green and The Omega Man.

Angelo Florez was always singing and dancing as a kid, and was one of the New Mouseketeers. He died early from AIDS.
