Charles Canfield was a major developer of the oil industry in Southern California. He helped convert the AT&SF railroad from coal to oil.


He donated to charity, and helped develop Beverly Hills and Del Mar.


George and Walter Ralphs started Ralphs grocery store chain.

Eduardo Cansino was a dancer and actor, and father of actress and dancer Rita Hayworth. He appeared in Sombrero, Salome, The Loves of Carmen, and Dancing Pirate.


Maria Ouspenskaya was a Russian actress and acting teacher, and co-founded the School of Dramatic Art in NY. She earned supporting actress oscar nominations for Dodsworth, and Love Affair.


'Sunny' McKeen was Baby Snookums in 39 Newlyweds and Their Baby shorts in the late 1920s, then went on to make a series of six sound shorts on his own. He died from a blood disease.

Henryk Vars was a composer in Poland, then the US. His songs were sung by Margaret Whiting, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Brenda Lee and Dinah Shore. He did the music and song for the Flipper movie and TV series as well as Daktari.


Norman Maurer was a comic book artist and writer, and a director and producer of films and TV shows. He also managed the Three Stooges and was married to Moe's daughter.


Adam Goldstein was a radio DJ, producer and musician better known as DJ AM. He was a member of the rock band Crazy Town, co-owned Deckstar management, and worked on albums for Papa Roach and Will Smith. He was a frequent collaborator with Blink-182.

Jack Brooks, in his mothers's niche, was a composer, writing Old Buttermilk Sky, and That's Amore, and for The Patsy, The Ladies Man, Witness For The Prosecution, and "surf movies".


Kathleen Freeman started in vaudeville, then studied and gave up piano in college. She played Sister Mary Stigmata in The Blues Brothers, and was the voice of Peg's unseen mother in Married With Children.


Franz Waxman scored Bride of Frankenstein, Rebecca, The Philadelphia Story, Suspicion, and To Have and Have Not, and earned oscars for Sunset Blvd and A Place in the Sun.

Already posted on page 21, Susan Cabot finally got a new marker. I think the guys at findadeath.com helped.


Bernie Brillstein started his career in the mail room at the William Morris agency. He was a film and television producer, executive producer and talent agent. Shows included Hee Haw, The Muppet Show and Saturday Night Live.


Lew Wasserman was a talent agent and studio executive, He was also the manager of MCA for the Martin and Lewis comedy team. In 1995, Wasserman was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton.

Richard Murphy was a screenwriter, including the story for Back in the Saddle with Gene Autry. He was oscar-nominated for Boomerang!, and The Desert Rats.


Al Dubin was a lyricist, who collaborated with composer Harry Warren, famous for the 1933 musical 42nd Street. Other movies included Footlight Parade and all five Gold Diggers films.


John Seitz was a cinematographer, and inventor. He was oscar-nominated for The Divine Lady, Five Graves to Cairo, Double Indemnity, The Lost Weekend, Sunset Boulevard, When Worlds Collide, and Rogue Cop.

Ronald Jack Pennick was an actor, after working as a gold miner. He was in over 140 films, appearing in dozens of John Ford's movies. He also drilled the military extras in The Alamo.


The Little Mouse was the nickname of Norman Spencer Chaplin, son of Charlie Chaplin and Mildred Harris. He only lived a few days.


Kenny Sinclair was a member of the doo-wop musical group The Six Teens. Their first hit was A Casual Look.

Steven Parent was a random victim of the Charles Mason family. He was shot by Tex Watson as he was leaving the Polanski house after visiting the caretaker he had recently befriended.


Schlitze Surtees was a microcephalic performer and actor, most famously in the 1932 movie Freaks. He had the IQ of a 3-year old, and could count to 10 (often overlooking 7 or 8). His marker was provided through donations in about 2000.

Veronica Lopez, as Ronnie Howard, was a cellmate of Manson Family member Susan Atkins. Atkins bragged about the murders to her, and Howard later collected 1/2 the reward money. Ten years later, she was severely beaten and died, though it was ruled not related to Manson.


William Gilbert got a lot of mileage in movies with his humorous drawn-out sneeze. He was the model for, and voice of, Sneezy in Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

Terry McCann was a wrestler and won the Olympic gold medal in bantamweight freestyle, and helped found the US Wrestling Federation. He also retired as the Executive Director of Toastmasters International after 26 years.


Tom Fears played football for the Rams from 1948-56. He led the league in receptions his first three years, and caught the game-winning TD in the 1951 championship game. When injuries ended his playing, he went into coaching.


Gail Johnson acted on Mr Ed, and earned an Emmy nomination as Mimi Grosset on 'Days of our Lives" in the late 1960s. She became a top Hollywood makeup artist.

James McHugh was a composer of over 500 songs, recorded by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Chet Baker, Dinah Washington, June Christy, Peggy Lee, Deanna Durbin, and Ella Fitzgerald.


Etta McDaniel was the sister of actor Sam and actress Hattie. She mostly played uncredited parts as maids and nannies. Her first role was as a native in King Kong who pulls her baby away from him.

The Gilmore's were big in the oil business.


Earl Gilmore's independent oil business was the largest in the west, started self-serve stations, and promoted racing. Some of his land is the location of Farmer's Market.


Isaac Newton Van Nuys, and father-in-law Isaac Lankershim share a marker. They developed much of Southern California. The town of Lankershim became North Hollywood, and Van Nuys is still going.


Susanna was the daughter of Lankershim, and married Van Nuys.

Francis Hall started a radio and electronics store nearby, and began selling guitars and amps after WWII. His company became Rickenbacker Guitar after buying out stock from Adolph Rickenbacker.


William Ching acted in DOA, In A Lonely Place, Our Miss Brooks, Science Fiction Theater, Perry Mason, and 77 Sunset Strip.


Linda Cordova had small acting roles in Virgin Sacrifice, The Long Rope, Wanted: Dead or Alive, Have Gun Will Travel, and Hombre.

Yep, I've been there many times. Probably has the highest celebrity/area ratio of them all.
