David Stewart Freeman had a career in advertising, and co-wrote the 1999 book "100 Things to Do Before You Die". He did about half of them before hitting his head in a fall.


Dorothy Dare acted in Happiness Ahead, The Saint Louis Kid, Maybe It's Love, Gold Diggers of 1935 and Front Page Woman. After retiring in 1937, she had a single role in 1942s The Yanks Are Coming.


Edmund Burns started acting with an uncredited role in 1915s Birth of A Nation, and appeared in It Happened One Night, Cleopatra, and his last role in Murder With Pictures in 1936.

Ruben Salazar was a Mexican-American journalist killed by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy during the National Chicano Moratorium March against the Vietnam War on August 29, 1970 in East Los Angeles.


Linda Brown was shot to death by her stepdaughter, as part of a plot hatched by Linda's husband and her sister, to collect life insurance money. Her murder was the subject of the book If You Really Loved Me.

Nina de Revenne acted as Nina Borget in Marie Galante, Till We Meet Again, The Blue Dahlia, That Forsythe Woman, and Funny Face.


R Dale Butts was the chief pianist and arranger for NBC Radio, then Republic Studios as a staff composer. Nominated for Flame of the Barbara Coast. Once married to Dale Evans (she used his name).


Seena Owen acted in the silent films A Yankee In the West, DW Griffiths' Intolerance, A Fugitive From Matrimony, and the talkie Officer Thirteen. She wrote 2 stories turned into movies for Dorothy Lamour.

Gaetano Gaudio was a cinematgrapher, starting in 1903 with Napoleon Crossing the Alps. He later worked for Thomas Ince, and shot 9 Norma Talmadge films. He also developed a silent camera that could be used for sound movies.


Tom Kennedy shares his daughter's crypt. He was the US amateur heavyweight boxing champ in 1908, then joined Mack Sennett's studio, and co-starred with Monte Collins in 11 two-reelers.


Don Tosti was a musician and composer of classical, jazz, and rhythm-and-blues. His Pachuco Boogie in 1948 was the first million-selling Latin song.

Larry Blake acted in The Road Back. Backlash, Cruisin' Down the River, Earth vs. the Flying Saucers, Hang 'Em High, The Stone Killer, The Strongest Man in the World, and Time After Time. On TV he was in The Pride of the Family, Gunsmoke, Perry Mason, The Virginian, Here's Lucy, Adam-12, and The Waltons.


Fred Niblo was a screenwriter and was oscar-nominated for The Criminal Code, directed by Howard Hawks. His 50 credits include Escape from Devil's Island, Penitentiary, No Place to Go, The Fighting 69th, Strange Alibi, and Incident. Niblo co-wrote the screenplay for Four Jills in a Jeep with his father.


Olga San Juan began in radio. During the 1940s, she appeared most notably musicals often as a dancer and singer. Credits include Rainbow Island, Duffy's Tavern, Blue Skies, Variety Girl, Are You with It? and The Countess of Monte Cristo. She had a featured role in the Broadway musical Paint Your Wagon. Formerly married to actor Edmund O'Brien.

Arthur Bryant was best known as the voice of 'Elmer Fudd' in the Warner Brothers cartoons, among others.


Franklyn Farnum was in vaudeville and silent movies, often appearing in Westerns. Later, he played minor roles, often uncredited, including The Clock, The Ghost Rider, Stagecoach, Monsieur Verdoux, Johnny Belinda, Sunset Blvd, Guys and Dolls, The Ten Commandments, and Witness for the Prosecution.


Belle Bennett starred in the silent films Stella Dallas, The Battle of the Sexes, and The Iron Mask. Her career virtually ended with talkies and she died in poverty, after a long battle with cancer.

Eric Dolphy played jazz alto saxophone, flute, and bass clarinet. He played with Charles Mingus, John Coltrane, and Booker Little. 1964's Out to Lunch! is perhaps his finest album.


Harry Kellar was a magician with large stage shows during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He made the equivalent of $200,000 in Mexico in 1875. Harry Houdini talked him out of retirement for a final performance in 1917.


Tim Moore played Kingfish on the Amos N Andy show, though he was better-known for stage and vaudeville work. He had only appeared in 3 previous films before coming out of retirement to play Kingfish.

Don DeFore played leads in B pictures, but was more often the good-natured buddy of the hero or a likable but gullible character whom the hero has to bail out of trouble. DeFore was a regular on Hazel, and The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet.


Louis Kaufman was a concert violinist, and played the scores for Casablanca, Gone with the Wind, The Diary of Anne Frank, Wuthering Heights, The Grapes of Wrath, and Spartacus.


Ken Carpenter was a radio announcer starting in 1929, for such things as the UCLA and USC football games, the Rose Bowl, Bing Crosby's Kraft Music Hall, the radio sitcoms the Halls of Ivy and The Life of Riley, and the Lux Theater.

Chief Hailstorm was the stage name of Jarrette Van Noy, a full-blood Cherokee. He worked in Buffalo Bill's Wild West, then acted starting in 1914. He later toured in vaudeville, and subsequently gave educational lectures about Native life.


William Self spent a year in advertising before acting in 30 roles, then producing TV and movies including M*A*S*H, Batman, Peyton Place, Lost in Space and 12 O'Clock High.


Olive Borden was a WAMPAS Baby, a Mack Sennet bathing beauty, and worked in 11 silent films in a 1926 at $1500 per week. She joined the WACS in 1943, but found little acting work afterward. Alcoholic and broke, she died in a LA women's mission.

Richard Crane acted in the 1940s through the 1960s, and was the title character in the 1950s TV serial Rocky Jones, Space Ranger.


Earle Hodgins was typecast in mostly western, appearing in over 330 films and TV shows between 1932 and 1963. He began as a narrator and doing voiceovers for cartoons, making his film debut in Hell's House, then Paradise Canyon, The Old Chisholm Trail, Sheriff of Wichita, Up in Smoke and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. TV included The Cisco Kid, The Range Rider, Wild Bill Hickok, Have Gun Will Travel, and Gunsmoke.


Richard Day was was an oscar--winning set designer on 17 films, art director on 245 films from 1922 to 1970 including Palmy Days, The Kid From Spain, The Call of the Wild, Swanee River, Blood and Sand, Roxie Hart, My Foolish Heart and a number of Charlie Chan movies. Nominated for 18 Oscars, he won for On the Waterfront, A Streetcar Named Desire, This Above All, My Gal Sal, How Green Was My Valley, Dodsworth, and The Dark Angel.

Kent Taylor had the same moustache as Errol Flynn and Clark Gable, but never got the better roles. He acted in The Daltons Ride Again, Western Pacific Agent, the series' star as Boston Blackie, The Phantom From 10,000 Leagues, Zorro, The Rough Riders, and The Day Mars Invaded Earth.


Frank Tours was the musical director on 19 films including the Marx Brothers film The Cocoanuts. He was also a composer for 20 films including Conspiracy, Beyond Tomorrow, and Journey Into Fear.


William Thomas produced 86 films from 1938 to 1978 including Million Dollar Legs, Dark Mountain, Disaster, Topic Zone, Lucy Gallant, and Nightmare. He also directed 7 films including four Big Town variations.. He was oscar-nominated for a wartime documentary.

Charles Alexander Mentry was in the oil business, and his So Cal well Pico #4 was the first commercially successful well in the western US. Mentry died from bug bites.


Hsi Tsiang was a Chinese immigrant who wrote socially-conscious poetry and fiction, then began a career in acting after the outbreak of WWII.

Elaine Hammerstein (Kays) acted on stage and in silent movies including The Girl From Nowhere, The Drums of Jeopardy, Reckless Youth, Broadway Gold, and The Midnight Express.


She was the granddaughter of Oscar Hammestein. She was married to actor Alan Crosland, then insurance broker James Kays. She died in a car crash near Tijuana.

Albert Collins was an electric blues guitarist and singer. The Master of the Telecaster liked Fender guitars with an unusual tuning. He played at 1985's Live Aid.

Margaret Irving acted in silent movies, then The Marx Bros Animal Crackers, Charlie Chan at the Opera, The Outcasts of Poker Flat, and 96 episodes of The People's Choice on TV.


Clyde Bruckman wrote and directed some of Laurel and Hardy, Abbott and Costello and Buster Keaton films. Alcoholism and unemployment led him to borrow Keaton's gun and shooting himself.


Maryester Denver acted in Born to Be Loved, The Interns, Under the Yum Yum Tree, The Fortune Cookie, The Russians are Coming, Project X and Wicked, Wicked, and TV's Ben Casey, Star Trek, The Wild Wild West, Bewitched and Columbo.
