Faye Dancer played center field for 3 teams in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which was popular during and after WWII. She was the highest paid player when she started at $75 a week, and retired making $125 a week. She averaged 70 stolen bases per year, was the first in the league to hit two home runs in a game, and the first to hit two grand slams in a season. She was 11-11 as an occasional pitcher.


May Sutton won the US Open Singles and Doubles (with partner Miriam Hall) in tennis in 1904. She was the first American (and non-Brit) to win Wimbledon in 1905.

Diane Sherbloom was the US National Figure Skating champion in 1961. Along with all her team-mates and coaches, she died in a plane crash on the way to the World Championships.


Albert Mark invented silicon-epitaxy, an important step in the development of the modern microchip.


Ricardo Montalban played Khan on the Star Trek series and movie, and was Mr. Rourke on TV's Fantasy Island.

Ruth Handler co-invented the Barbie doll.

Vincent Eugene Craddock, better known as singer Gene Vincent, had the hit Be-Bop-A-Lula in 1956. He was the first inductee of the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, and also is in the Rock and Roll HOF.


Roy Brown started off in boxing, but became a rhythm-and-blues singer and had a string of 15 hits from 1948-51.

Archie Twitchell was an actor in westerns and as the suit salesman in Sunset Boulevard, and a licensed pilot. After his movie career, he flew for Lockheed, and was copilot on a DC-7 test-flight that had a mid-air collision and crashed into a junior high school.


Gorgeous George was the legally-changed name of the famous wrestler who entered the ring via a personal red carpet, accompanied by music, spotlights, and enough theatrics to make Vince McMahon proud.


Lucille Price Hardy was the third wife and widow of Oliver Hardy. In 1975, Lucille and Stan's widow, Ida Laurel, won a ruling that heirs to estates of celebrities own advertising and trade rights of the celebrity name.

He designed the building in the background, which has become the Portal of the Folded Wings, a sort of shrine holding the graves of several aviation pioneers.
