I lived about 1.5 miles from the Mountain View Cemetery in Oakland for several years while I was in school out in CA. I didn't know at the time but the grave of the young woman known as The Black Dahlia is there. There's a pic here:

Elizabeth "Black Dahlia" Short (1924 - 1947) - Find A Grave Memorial

I've always felt very bad for Elizabeth Short. She was such a pretty woman. I wish I'd known back then. I'd have left some flowers on her grave at some point. It's so sad to be remembered more for how you died than who you were.

I kept meaning to go up there with a camera to look around. It's supposed to be a gorgeous cemetery with some art deco monuments but the hike up there is quite a steep one and there is no bus that runs directly up to it, or there wasn't then anyway. I didn't have a car so I never made it up there unfortunately.
