I am glad I came across this thread. I have nothing to post yet, but my infrared film is on its way. Of course I bought the film first and then decided to read up on infrared photography. That's when I found out I need a filter, and that focusing and metering is difficult. So I'd like to ask you for advice. I've been reading up on filters, and they range in prices quite a bit. I've seen one for $6000! I've learned not to use cheap filters, but at the same time, since I've never tried infrared photography, I am not sure how often I would do it. I've seen some people use red filters instead of infrared, which are more expensive. Would that be a decent strategy? If not, would you suggest a cheap infrared filter? I came across Fotga, but never heard of this company... Thanks!

Landscapes really look beautiful, thank you for posting these! I have been looking at the Zomei filters. What do you think so far?

Thank you for your feedback. I was going to go for one of the Zomei filters, but then came across a Kenko (720 I think) filter on clearance for $20, so went for that. Still waiting for the film to arrive. Hope it gets here before the winter

This is spectacular. I have the zomei 720 filter. I got it for a Fuji bridge. How well do Pentax cameras do IR unconverted?

Thank you! I had my K-5 converted to IR, by Isaac Szabo. I chose the 590nm filter, so that I'd have the choice of that for color or adding a 720nm filter for monochrome conversions. (I bought the 720nm filter for use with film.) I did a quick test using the 720nm filter on the K-1, but the results were disappointing. I vaguely recall that the K10D is supposed to be pretty good for this, and I do have one, but without live view I'd find that slow going.

I don't think it's worth converting a camera that doesn't have live view.

Another try at playing around with my infrared filter on my unconverted camera. In the local park north of home. Always seem to be windy when I try this, but that is typical for a day with these nice clouds.

Here are a few shots from a newly-converted K-5. Just getting started with IR and I chose the K-5 to get converted to 630Nm because it is relatively cheap to get, takes all my my lenses (used on the KP) and feels so darned familiar in my hand (yes I owned it as well as the IIs version after and loved both cameras).

Software used is Darktable for the intial conversion from PEF using a RB channel swap, Digikam to do some level and curve stuff. Lens used was the DA16-85mm.
