Yes, M42 adapter, and then a bunch more stuff!
But it's all available to buy. I didn't have to design or build anything. After the M42 adapter which of course I already had, I used:
$9.90: M42 male to M65 female ring
$29.99: M65 focusing helicoid
$26.10: M65 to Ø62.5 ring clamp (it would be easy to leave it out and DIY this part)
$54.99: the lens itself
It's not such a great bargain, although it still might be the cheapest way to get f/1.8 at 100mm. The same parts will also work for most Soviet 35mm slide projector lenses (62.5mm was their standard outer tube diameter).
One interesting thing about the lens is that disassembly only requires unscrewing the trim ring in the front, after which all the glass and spacers fall out in a big stack. It would be a great platform for optical experiments. I'd like to make my own apertures with unusual shapes. Should be fun.
I hope myself and others can get Jean Poitiers'
Projector Lens Club going again. It's a lot of fun hacking optics never intended for taking pictures.
A couple more from Saturday's projector adventure:
At last, my own dog as the thread title demands.
I hope my face doesn't look like that when I get a new lens in the mail...
