Very effective use of the technique! The high contrast of the little riffle really enhances the effect of the shallow focus.

Do you guys use tripods for this? And what software do you use to stitch the images? Thank you.

For me, no tripod. But keep your feet planted. You want to shoot your object from the exact same point of view, so don't step away from your "spot". Shoot in M mode so the exposure/white balance/focus doesn't change from exposure to exposure.

I use Microsoft Image Composite Editor (MS ICE). I've used Hugin, and the Photomerge feature in Photoshop elements, but MS ICE is faster and smarter about stitching, in my experience.

I don't necessarily use a tripod either; just stay fixed as severalsnakes suggests. I use a Mac so ICE is not available, and I get quite good stitching with Photoshop Elements.

I guess it will be harder to do it with tripod.

I use Microsoft ICE to stitch, it fails very, very rarely.

Using a tripod would make things very difficult and uncomfortable as you'd have to move yourself around that point all the time. I do find it helpful to crouch down to help keep myself in the same spot. I also find that a low perspective often works well for this method.

I found a burned-out / wrecked car a few weeks ago in my wife's home town and took some photos on film. Yesterday I went back and it was still there so I got some digital shots. K3 & M 85mm f/2 (as usual).

I thought it would be interesting to compare the depth of field of the last Brenizer shot I posted (from last summer!!) with a 645 film shot I took of the same subject at the same time. Film was Fuji Acros and the lens was the 75mm f/2.8, wide open. Quite a different look in the photos but I think it's an interesting comparison.

Here's one I did recently of some fungi. Cropped from nine overlapping images using a hand-held K135/2.5 @f3.2(?), close to MFD, lying on the ground.

Here's a small Brenizer from yesterday (only about five shots used), stitched vertically, wide open with the K3 and SMC Takumar 55mm f/2. I've never used this lens for Brenizers before, the DoF is not as shallow as with the 85/2, but it seems to have worked quite well.

Cross-posted from the "M" lens thread. This is an old cart sitting outside a rural hotel in Galicia and I thought it would make a good subject.

Taken with the M 85mm f/2 lens and K3.

I have another Brenizer shot to post but Microsoft Ice refuses to stitch the top left corner which means I'd need to crop the photo far more than I'd like. That whole section is out of focus and not particularly high contrast, which maybe explains the failure. Does anyone know how I could manually align the remaining photos or make any settings changes to make ICE more amenable to stitching them together?

I cant remember what lens I used for this, probably my Takumar 50mm F1.4
A bunch of us got together and rented a holiday cottage in Wales - a converted 18th century barn with under floor heating.
We're all musicians so we were in our element here, it was very remote.
