Separate raw processing for sky and foreground, combined with a simple gradient mask (i.e., digital GND filter), mild tinting (cool shadows, warm highlights), rotation and perspective correction and a corresponding crop.

Basic black and white conversion in Lightroom
Exported to GIMP for selective contrast adjustments
Selective High Pass filter
Tinted with sepia overlay layer
Cloned out the defecating sheep :ugh: and a very slight crop
Back to Lightroom for a little vignette

Using Paint Shop Pro X: Straighten the horizon, clone out 1/2 a crappin' sheep, a little histogram adjust, a lot of clarify, a couple of overlayed paint layers, and some levels adjustment.

In Paint Shop Pro X3: Quite a bit of color correction in two layers, sharpen, horizon correction, and a more aggressive crop that got rid of the sheep in mid duty rather then a clone out.

When I first saw this shot I was tempted to go black and white, but since some of you already beat me to it I decided to go the opposite way. This shot, to me it looks like a pastoral variant on the Bliss wallpaper, like it belongs on the default Windows desktop, so I adjusted it accordingly, and made it look like something Bill Gates and crew would be proud of. Oh, and though I was perverse enough to like the sheep doing it's business, I still cropped it because it's not all that attractive. Up close though? I bet a shot of that sheep doing that was probably funny enough to spawn a million LOL renditions.

Going for what I figured it might have looked like in person. Cropped and an attempt to straighten the leaning tree.

There were some very nice features to this photo that I though bore being brought out. The sky is very dramatic, but equally so was the light falling directly on the tree and beyond/ Like a small spot of sunlight found this tree and the pasture beyond. not perfect, a good challenge!

Wow -- lots of great ideas. Makes me want to try again, so I can steal as many of those ideas as possible. Here's my color rendering. No perspective correction this time (except for rotation) because I wanted to keep the wide-angle perspective. Trying for realistic, yet painterly a la Constable.

Interesting to see the different approaches. Here is my try. Tools used are Rawtherapee 3 and PWP 5.

Adjusted the overall exposure top to bottom in ACR, straightened the horizon (looked crooked to me), fed final image through Topaz Adjust using one of my custom presets.

Click the entry image for the full sized pixel peeper version.

Good luck everyone. Great entries so far.

My 2 cents. Simple filter in Irfanview (Metallic) that I thought fit the mood. Brings out the features of the sheep while making the sky more dramatic.
