A rhino visited my yard today - and hung about very photogenically -

A bit of face detail

And the top horn...

I like the attitude it has going about with two fingers up to the whole world.

Thanks Jean, the Macro Takumar's max aperture is f4 and is still paper thin at this proximity- beetle is as big as grown man's thumb and makes a curious hissing noise when threatened..

I can image, although I have never had the chance to use this macro length ... all my stuff is @ 100 mm, but I can relate to the paper thin analogy ... Salut, J

Excellent! We have Hawk Moths here that at first glance could pass for a small hummingbird or huge bumblebee

Me too now that's almost spring. I'm still waiting on Adorama to fill my order on the reverse ring I ordered two months ago. They say it's out of stock.

tsakatsaka, nice butterfly photos. When I made this thread, I said I liked macros, but they don't have to be macro insect photos to post here. I like regular photos too. Just as long as they are bugs/insects.

A lot of great butterfly photos above - it will be 2-3 months before we see them here.

When I first bought my macro lens in Spring 2012 I found these beetles on a couple of fritillaries that grow by our front door. I took some pics but I wasn't that happy with them so last year I checked to see if they had come back. There they were again - Lily Leaf beetle (this one on a nearby ivy leaf). A lot of gardeners would tell me I should just kill them - apparently they ravage lily plants, but they are quite pretty.
