Three more takes on the swallowtail. The little P&S did OK.

I will get the tamron 90/2.8
First the film era was pretty good for macro. I've still got the negatives. But now it's easier because I can see the imperfections right away, with film I had to wait until developing was done. B/W was done by me, but color had to be sent out. I like the digital now much better. I own the Tamron SP2 90mm 2.8 but it's manual all the way. Can't really do macros with AF anyway, AF changes the FOV. Plus the Tammy I have cost a lot less than the AF version, why I could afford it.

I noticed in your EXIF you're shooting with center weight, try spot metering, it's much better. IMO.

Doundounba, those are awesome shots of the dragonfly. Which lens did you use for these?

Thank you both! (Assuming Aaron was addressing me...)

These three were all shot with a Tamron Adaptall SP 90 mm F/2.5 Macro (52BB) and 2X tele-converter (01F), plus Raynox DCR-250 and Yongnuo YN-560 III diffused off-camera flash. The second and third shots are actually two-shot focus stacks.

Wow those are really nice do you shoot at F/16 effective? What flash power are you using?

100/2.8 WR about 1:2. I should have sacrificed ISO for a bit more DOF(or just brought my flash and diffuser )

I got a cheap ring flash in the mail today and tried it out with the 100mm macro.

Some great recent shots, everyone.
I just got the Pentax module for the Sunpak and was playing around last night. I figured out how to use it in Auto mode, which is kind of a semi-auto mode in X-sync mode on the camera. Achievement Unlocked! I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do.

I think that's a Megachile of some sort on the purple - maybe a male? Melisodes longhorned bees on the bee balm, those are fun bees to watch. I think those are the groups, send to bug guide and find out. Those are great shots.

Do please consider sharing images with the Native Bee Awareness Initiative on Facebook. We're launching a dedicated website later, but for sharing the place is Facebook. We're looking for good images of the various North American native bees - and of course some of the non-bee pollinators as well for reference. The group is exactly what it sounds like, our goal is to educate the public about our native bees.

With Facebook's policy in place, my photos will never be on there. They claim if you post photos on Facebook, then these photos now belong to them. No thanks, I like to retain copyright on my photos.

It's funny how that myth has perpetuated. Here is the Terms concerning content shared on facebook, I see lots of "quotes" that never actually existed lol.

"Sharing Your Content and Information

You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook, and you can control how it is shared through your privacy and application settings"

Pretty plain speak, if there is more leagalize it is pretty well hidden.

Edit: well I did forgot about this, my understanding is it's for promotional uses, and expires when you delete it. Pretty close to flickr and other sites, though FB does not say specifically for self promotion

For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (IP content), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.

My point exactly. I won't share on FB, plain and simple because of that statement above.
