A couple Clearwing Moth pics. Took these early last year with a K50 and Kiron 105. These were two of the very first I took with that lens, and also my very first attempts at post-processing. I was super-stoked with these originally, but now I'm a bit more critical of my photography and may dredge up the DNG's and give PP another go. Funny how that works huh?

Those clearwing "hummingbird moths" are not easy subjects! They're big, but fast and never stop moving. They'll teach you to really manage settings and also teach you patience. Fortunately, they're not shy.

I've photographed these moths a couple of times find the pearly gray eye never looks as if it is in focus.

Spot on sir!. I probably spent the better part of an hour waiting to get close enough to attempt a few shots. Just when I'd think the shot was thee, swisshhh , it was off to another flower.

Now this critter on the other hand really wan't going anywhere. Same camera/lens combo

Another from a couple days ago, but with a KS2 and Pentax D FA 100. He bolted not even a second after I shot this. Guess he was out of patience with me.

EDIT: Just noticed the images were out of order. Grashopper is with the D FA100/KS2. Earwig (or whatever it's called. All I know is it wouldn't come when called ) was with the K50/Kiron

I think it's a male lasioglossum, we'll see if Bug Guide can help. Black, but the light colored hairs made the bee look grey in the field, very distinctive.

And here is one of life's little pleasant surprises.
The Agochlora aurata is a 3mm-ish long green sweat bee. Hanging off the back of one dandelion petal, completely unseen by me of course, was a tiny (1-1.5mm) Chalcid wasp. The Chalcid is in better focus than the bee, too.

I read a forum post the other day about using a slide duplicator as a macro lens, so I gave it a go in the garden today. I used a Jessops zoom slide duplicator with the end piece removed, working distance is stupidly small as is the dof, and there is no real way to focus it other than moving the camera back and forth. But I was pleasantly surprised by the results,

Well, that's how you're supposed to focus with macro. If you use AF it changes lenses from 1:1 to not 1:1. In my views, AF changes the point of view.
