Little green leaf hopper, by far the most common species I see in this area.

Thanks for keeping this thread alive guys. I've been off line since Monday morning early due to hurricane Irma. I never lost electrical power but did lose cable/internet service until this morning.

I posted a slightly different version of these caterpillars on another thread. In this one, they seem to have been ordered into line for a coordinated attack on the leaf.

Tussock moths of some sort, and they do tend to congregate.

Cranefly is correct. Two things about them: 1) out in Oregon we encountered a really big species, far larger than any I've seen in MessyChewBits, that the locals called, as I remember, a "mosquito-hawk." 2) there was a world expert on craneflies at the U've-a-Nursery of MessyChewBits who early on found the only reliable way to identify different species was the genitalia. So his collection of cranefly specimens consisted of thousands of microscope slides with, you guessed it, just their genitalia.

Always nice when they get organized for a photo.

They are Milkweed Tussock Moths, Euchaetes egle. In the early instars I've counted close to 200 on a single milkweed leaf. By the 4th (what these guys look like), they'll tend to spread out somewhat.

Any reason why this thread and Insects - PentaxForums.com shouldn't be merged, mods?
