and a little beetle that was even harder to spot than the assasin bug above. Until I donned my reading glasses and looked closely I thought my brain was creating an insect out of a flower stalk.

FYI: Except for the leafhopper, the preceding images were all from a bug-photo-hunt I took yesterday morning before the rest of the family completed their breakfast.

I haven't seen much lately. Yesterday the Rasputine the cat came for a visit and found the 3 big grasshoppers but he couldn't reach them. He decided to look for skinks and managed to catch a 5 spotted hawk moth just emerged. Flipped it around awhile. Then after it was put in the open it started climbing for high ground which meant the cat and me. Cat wanted none of that and I let it climb on my boot. Then I flicked it into the basil where it found purchase. I proceeded to grow wings despite its green ooze from cat bite punctures. The last picture was hours later in pitchdark trying to hold a flashligh and strobe in one hand and the camera with trigger strobe in my other hand while half on my back. Oh did you notices I said my boot earlier? I am always in flip flops except we have fire ants now and 10 or more stings on my foot still burn 3 days later.

Notice the yellow blob nexk area.

Evidence.

Found this cicada husk on the wall beside my front door yesterday morning. I was sure it hadn't been there the night before, so I figured the emergent cicada couldn't have gone very far.

I was right.

With flash:

and without:

All shots taken with the Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro. All shots were originally taken vertically, but I decided to flip it around horizontally. I've kept the shed skin for later shooting.
