Found this cicada husk on the wall beside my front door yesterday morning. I was sure it hadn't been there the night before, so I figured the emergent cicada couldn't have gone very far.
Great series - and well spotted! This is something of a goal for me with insects - getting the same species at several life stages. A while back, someone in this thread (sorry, forgot who and this thread is enormous!) posted a queen ant in the process of biting off her wings(!) I guess you need a special combination of high awareness and perfect timing... I need to work on that!

Haven't had a chance to shoot much lately, maybe later this week I'll get a chance.

A coupling couple got a bug stolen. At first I thought it was the first cannibalism I had seen.

And the red wasps are always way cool.

Wow. Are those assassin bugs? We have some species in reduviidae in Denmark, but they are rare - and none of them are as deadly looking as yours!

They are assassin bugs. They are quite successful around here.

Cool. I am going to pay more attention to bugs when we travel. I have mostly been bird watching.

Here's a funny fly I just met. This is Tachina fera, a parasitoid on moth larvae, and for some reason they are hugely succesful this summer. Its Danish common name is "mellemfluen Oskar", which translates to "Oskar, the middling fly" - which it got because the other Tachina species is called "Harald the giant fly" in Danish. I like silly common names!

That tachina fera would be a meal for an assassin here since several hang out on the flowering mint.

That picture looks like it's painted on silk, Noel - nice!

Even if you are not into the whole pollination thing, flowers can still be a good place to hang out:

A Ladybird that I am assuming is one of the invasive to England Asian Ladybird. Rescued from a birdbath, it dried itself off and flew away. Some cropping and sharpening applied.
