Two more images of aphid-farming ants. The second image gives some notion of how shallow the DOF is.

Candy striped leaf-hopper, a perennial favourite.

---------- Post added 09-05-18 at 09:58 AM ----------

Waiting for lunch. A two frame homebrew stack with the front claw detail added from a second shot using PS layers to the base image taken at the same time.

"Hello down there!" Shield bug.

Click beetle.

Not exactly a close-up, more insect in its habitat. Enormous numbers of jewel weeds (AKA touch-me-nots) in bloom or coming into bloom, many more than I can remember seeing in previous years. Some insects seem to be totally addicted to them.

I posted additional images from this morning on the other insect thread. I was intrigued by the lady-bug beetles in the last two images. They certainly appear to be mating, yet the pattern on their elytra (and also the thorax) is completely different.

I was pleased with the way the camera + lens captured this dragonfly = plenty of fine detail around the head.

Two I shot tonight. My brother found on our carport floor and I scooted inside grabbed the blue knight K-30, 18-55mm with Raynox DCR-350.

I flipped him over, and let him crawl away.

This grasshopper was in a bit of a sorry state - I'd just rescued it from drowning and it had strayed through a webfield - not the most attractive environment on the top of a water butt (put there to dry out) - but nice light
