wasn't sure what would happen here but the skink thought better.

had an infestation in a closet a couple years ago. They eat clothes. Don't like to see these guys. It is cool how they come out both ends searching around.

This time the kill was by the sidewalk.

Thanks. That's taken with a Sigma 150mm f2.8 mounted via a lensed adapter to a Olympus OM 10 MKii micro-four-thirds body, Flash makes a really big difference in maximizing sharpness, at least for me.

I think this is a robber fly.

With this one would turn a little.

found this in my bed. I hope it was stuck to my clothes and not actually crawling at some point. Now that I think about there was a bug flying around my bedroom one night. Last I saw it was around the light above the bed.

Came across this wasp a few weeks ago. It was sluggish and not all of its legs seemed to be working just right. It wasn't until after I saw the shots I'd taken that I noticed the broken left wing. It must have suffered some calamity.

If I can I give them some liquid sugar. Honey or syrup, thick enough not to stream away. They usually perk up in less than 5 minutes. I consider it payment for modeling.

I'm not very good on flies but It is definitely not a robber fly. It looks more akin to a crane fly, but I don't think the legs are quite long enough.

FOLLOWUP: It certainly looks like Diogmites except for the legs, which look more slender in the specimen you photographed. I came across this reliable way to distinguish robber flies from crane flies: 1) robber fly antennae have three segments; 2) crane fly antennae have at least six segments and are commonly, but not always, plumose. In the images you've posted, especially the second one, the antennae appear to be plumose, but I cannot count the segments.

I. diogmites neoternatus is my guess. Here is another view.
I'll check that genus, because if it is a robber fly I want to know, as it is very unlike any familiar to me.

Could it be some sort of midge? It reminds me a bit of this critter I photographed earlier this year:

Or this one:

Could be forgot to mention it's probably 1cm long. Bigger than big mosquitoes. Are midges that big?
