Another lethargic ladybug, but to get a facial shot similar to the one above I'd have to lay on the ground - no longer a reasonable thing for me to do. Also a grasshopper and something like a cricket.

Leafhopper. Slightly different image of this individual posted on the "Insects" thread.

I hate to follow my own posts on a thread, but insects are my primary subject at the moment.

My ladybug was on a windowledge, so didn't need to inconvenience myself too much for the portrait!

Reversed Kinotel 1 1/2" cine lens reversed with extension on KP.

An ant that stopped long enough for me to get some shots.

100% of the second shot.

A tiny inchwormish critter:

Went to install new license plates on my car and this guy was stumbling in front of the car. I probably hit him nearby on my way home. I brought out chopsticks with honey and it drank it all up and flew away 5 minutes later.

Six assorted insects. The black beetle was photographed in Namibia, the rest are from the wilds of darkest MessyCheBits. The colorful caterpillar probably morphs into some kind of moth but I couldn't track down a matching image. The wasp nest was out in one of our sheds along the top frame of a door.

I'll check that if/when I get a chance. Time is getting short before our departure.

from last year

Apparently I forgot to post a day of photos last year. Here are a couple good ones.

Megachile latimanus male on patrol. These guys stake out territory, making them a bit more predictable for good photos.

American Snout butterfly, very nice to see butterflies.

Infestation

Not quite the usual insects posted here, but they're still insects though... Turns out I had a termite infestation in one of the wooden support beams in my house. Apparently these pesky little buggers were able to chip away at the surrounding wall and made a nest inside the wall, all the way to the support beam. They made several holes in my room where it's closest to the beam. When they burst out yesterday it was like a scene from Starship Troopers or Star Craft's Zerglings coming out of a Nydus Canal.
The really bad news is since it's going to set me back quite a lot to fix this (pest control and replacing the support beam), it looks like I won't be able to get the new Pentax camera next year...
