Some kinds of blue damselflies... I know when I last tried to look up what this might be, there were a thousand options and I wasn't able to pin it down.

Odd little moth I think? - Coleophora mayrella - BugGuide.Net

An interesting little moth which caught our eye at the James Woodworth Prairie Preserve. This was a breezy day, which didn't make photography easy.

Those dragonflies seemed to prefer the dusty track for settling down for a moment to the green on the sides of it. But they were easily scared away. I think I have identified them correctly because of the (telltale?) colouring of the male in the second pic?

Yes - I have also been frustrated many times waiting for a dragonfly to land on a pretty flower, or even just a leaf or stalk - but so often they land on a rock, or a concrete border, or on gravel, where their wings almost become invisible.

This species has become a regular. Almost always found on the False Sunflower. Apparently it could be a host plant for them. If so, it has not damaged the plant at all, which has been established in this corner of the garage. I can't move it, there's so much gravel - and the tap root is probably 6 feet long anyway.

That's really cool Aaron! You've photographed the larva of one of the Green Lacewing species (Family Chrysopidae). Many species cover themselves with debris for camouflage often including the bodies of their victims. They call the larvae 'aphid-lions' but they eat more than aphids. I see adult green lacewings all the time in my yard - I'll have to look for the larvae.

Here's a link with more information and pictures: Unidentified Debris-Carrying Larvae - BugGuide.Net

Thanks, my ankles were getting destroyed by gnats/mosquitoes when I took it.

Carrot Wasp

A photo from October 2013 back when I had my Pentax K7 and the 100mm f2.8 WR macro lens. This is a male carrot wasp. Females have a long ovipositor.
