You are correct. When I took a closer look at the two images I realized they were two different beetles.

A stint in the Garden yesterday, and lots of baby Mantis, I counted some 20 of them. Only 6 used for a photoshoot.
This one was the youngest of the lot, still retaining some of the colors of its nymph stage

A variety of flying insects were attracted to the night light outside the door of a place we stayed in Africa. This mantis was stalking on the ground, every now-and-then leaping up trying to grab a passing bug.
