Two images of a dog bane beetle. My reflection is visible in the side view, as a silhouette wearing a wide-brimmed hat.

BTW: Focal length in the EXIF means this was taken with the Tokina 90mm f2.5

According to iNaturalist, could be this species (Lopidea major) or anoter species from the same genus Lopidea sp.

Thanks weevil. Knowing the name of an insect, flower, tree, etc. always gives me the feeling that I KNOW the organism. Not being able to apply a name is like seeing a huge memorial and not having the slightest idea who or what is being memorialized.

Yeah, I also like ti identify what I shoot, by knowing the name we get more close and personal. I like iNaturalist for that, you upload a photo on their Computer Vision Demo AI, and most of the time, they are pretty accurate in the IDs

I must put a link to that site on my desktop. There are an awful lot of insects out there, and I know the names of only a handful.

Very small bug on a grassy seed head.

BTW: There's no FL or lens id beyond "A series" in the EXIF data, so I'll a guess this was taken with the 200mm f4 macro, but it might have been the Tokina 90mm f2.5

I like the caterpillar.

Cone-headed grasshopper, one taken in my "studio" the other in the field. Better lighting and fewer distractions in the studio image, more natural in the, well, natural setting. BTW: I haven't seen one of these big orthoperans for a long time.

Some images of a minute Mantis, probably newborn. Found it on my spectacles, after I had taken out my contact lenses, and it was in my field of vision. Thought it was an ant, of which there are plenty inside the home. Tried a few different combinations with the D FA 50mm Macro- Raynox 250, extension ring and x2 Teleconverter.

I love the series. Showing your progress in revealing the creature. Then from showing a monster to the cutest mantis ever.

I would pick the third image as the best outcome of your experiments.

Thank you both! Shooting at night was definitely not the way to go. Should have saved it in a container and then shot some in the morning. Bw, I leeft it on the table, it was gone when I (eventually) got up the next morning.

Lots of these around these days

And these too.

And not to be left out
